a change to life.
30s = millennial midlife crisis era. i will now be documenting my own after being 30 since last august.
i have about wondered this many times thanks to the millions of memes about how one chooses their new life path when they hit thirty. it feels like millennials have pushed the midlife crisis into appearing sooner. or is it because they are now well documented thanks to social media. before, everyone figured that there was a crisis afoot when a bright red corvette zoomed by or a man divorced his wife of 20+ years for that younger secretary.
nowadays, it looks quite different and obvious. some go the “settled down” route, end up hitched, and popping out mini versions of themselves. maybe a newly minted thirty year old will become a marathon nut ball by posting all of their times, their bibs, and a selfie of them slurping down an energy gel. a few may go on back to college and make a professor’s day a bit more bearable because they are not there to fuck around (literally) and party.
here and there, one can witness some revert to the “middle school years” and enjoy the same things they did back then. or maybe they sell everything and become a sprinter-van-bro and annoy the fuck out of some locals somewhere. we cannot forget the ones who use the excuse of hitting thirty as their time to shine and stop caring about their health, fitness (those two do go hand-in-hand), their appearance, and who knows what else.
now that i have went through a short list of possible millennial midlife crisis movers and shakers, i believe it may be time to reveal which path i have chosen.
drum roll pleeeeaasseeee…..
the fuck if i know.
that is right. i guess i am still in the decision stage. i can see a sprinkle of many different ones starting to show up in my life. so i had a good though of creating a side note within my Substack that documents my journey into my thirties. if this works well, maybe through out it. i can give you my own short list of the places i may be migrating to.
mountain biking
running and becoming a savage. i was a cross country runner for quite awhile and want to bring it back into my life.
long distance hiking or thru-hiking
reading even more (i have always been an avid reader. i want to challenge myself even more.)
getting off of birth control for the first time since i was 15 years old. i literally have no clue what my body is actually like and i am terrified of getting hormonal driven cancer.
playing piano again. started playing when i was in 1st grade but dropped it after i graduated high school.
teaching myself the ukulele.
making my own yarn for knitting
getting back into print making
wearing too much tie dye while looking like jay from Clerks.
so if you are interested in it, please jump on the wagon and stay tuned. i will link the articles on here once i get started. i do plan on using the writing methods i have been trying to teach my students to keep myself on track. i will be finding a name to give all of this. if you have a suggestion, speed ball it right at me.
see you on the next one,
shelbi
